400’s Added To Ultra Lightweight Manx GP Field

Hoping to boost entry numbers, event organisers have confirmed that alongside 125, Moto 3 and Supersport 300 bikes, 400 machines will also now be included within the new look Ultra Lightweight Manx GP races.

Some of the best racing at the Manx, over the years has been provided by the likeable 400 steeds. At a glance just some of the notable riders to have enjoyed Manx GP success on them, have included Carolynn Sells, Alistair Haworth, Billy Smith, Mick Jordan, Olie Linsdell, current Tyco BMW racer Dan Kneen and Alan Oversby.

In recent years next generation, improving closed roads competitors, to tackle 400’s on the fabled Mountain Course, have included Dan Ingham, 2014 Lightweight class winner Mark Purslow, Scarborough’s Nick Anderson, Craig Neve, Lancelot Unissart, Alex Sinclair, Japan’s Masayuki Yamanaka and Gavin Brown.

Speaking recently, about the decision to include 400’s, in the three lap Ultra Lightweight races, Manx Motorcycle Club, Chairman Peter Maddocks, stated:

“We were disappointed by the number of entries for the revived Ultra-Lightweight class incorporating the Supersport 300 machines. We are committed to running the race this year and anticipate the numbers rising in subsequent years.

However we have now incorporated the 400 cc machines which will make a more competitive race for these smaller machines.”
