Established, new Mountain Course pilots will have the choice of piloting either Sportbike or Super Twins tackle in next year’s Sportbike, Junior contests.
A recent statement by organisers, the Manx Motor Cycle Club emphasised succinctly, the reasons behind this decision:
“The decision recognises the investment competitors and teams have made in existing Supertwin machinery while continuing to provide opportunities for the newer generation of Sportbike motorcycles.
Retaining both options will give competitors greater certainty when planning for the 2027 event. It will allow riders to continue competing on familiar and proven Supertwin machinery, while supporting the continued development and adoption of Sportbikes within the Manx Grand Prix.
The approach is-intended to maintain accessible racing opportunities for established competitors and newcomers while allowing the event’s machinery mix to evolve over time.”
MGP history maker Johnny Stewart captured both Road Racing News Sportbike, Carole Nash Junior race victories in August whilst Eddy Wormald, standout newcomer Kevin Lavery, versatile racing all rounder Dan Sayle sealed rostrum finishes.
Expect more top-notch racing in 2027 as competitors aim to make their mark again on one of pure road racing’s most important, acclaimed events.
