Before the rain arrived, Road Racing News caught up with potential IRRC (International Road Racing Championship) history maker Jamie Williams.
Holding a thirty-point lead over Wally Jacobs, in the race to become the first-ever IRRC Sportbike Champion, the two times Manx Grand Prix winner stated the following when speaking about this subject, Championship triumph hopes.
“It has been an interesting one for sure, but we love it out there. The little Aprilia has been going fantastic for us, so we are going into the last round of the season in-a pretty-good place.”
“As much as I would like to say that we can make it happen, anything can happen, obviously we will do everything in our power to make sure we can secure that final first place standing.
But Wally Jacobs is a good guy, he is a fast rider, and you know what racing’s like, anything can happen on the day.”
In terms of IRRC Supersport competition, the reigning BeNeLux Trophy Supersport Champion, feels he is event on event, becoming more-and-more in strong harmony with 750 Suzuki equipment.
“The bike did not turn up till very, very late so we had no winter test time, and we were sort of like straight into racing with it.
Look, the more I’m riding it, the more I’m becoming at one with it, we went to the Southern 100 went the fastest we have ever been, been to Chimay, fastest I’ve ever been so it’s starting to become like my bike, if that makes sense.
The more I’m riding it, the more I’m becoming at one with it, and we are gathering data and developing it all the time with set-up and everything, so it is moving in the right direction.”
Having originally planned to make the transition from the Manx Grand Prix to the TT Races this year, Williams was-forced to abandon this objective due to an accumulation of reasons. For 2027 though, he has no doubt a first TT Races tenure of this decade, will arise.
“Moving forward looking at 2027, we will be at the TT no doubts at all.”
Equipped with ZXR 750 Kawasaki tackle plus 500/4 Honda apparatus for Classic TT action thanks to a recent deal with Steve Caffyn’s CSC Racing team after Maurizio Bottalico’s previously reported airport located misfortune, Williams had also designs’ on entering the Ultra Lightweight class.
“We were due to ride a Honda 400 but a couple of weeks ago during some testing the engine expired and the guy who owns the bike unfortunately does not have a spare engine and we did not have the time to get it back together so we don’t have a 400 ride at present.”
Spa 6-Hours Endurance race bound (teaming up with IRRC Sportbike title rival Wally Jacobs) post Classic TT endeavours, the ‘Tommy Club’ member stated he feels completely different for August Mountain Course circulations this year after the expectations of targeting year on year, standout Manx GP results.
“This year I feel completely different, there is no pressure, no expectation and am really chilled, really relaxed and to be honest with you I have no expectation on myself to finish anywhere, I just want to go out enjoy riding the bikes, were we finish is where we finish.
These things (classics machinery) are fickle, they are old, you have to treat them with a bit of respect and if I get across the line, I’d be a happy man and as long as I am enjoying it, then that’s all I can ask for.”
