2025 Steve Henshaw Gold Cup: Sunday Races Digest
Another Gold Cup-day, another top-notch day of racing at North-Yorkshire’s road-racing utopia, Oliver’s Mount.

Boyce Precision Engineering/Russell Racing’s Michael Browne aside from giving his suitors their second successive Steve Henshaw Gold Cup success, held sway within the second, third HMH Civils Supersport races.

Despite the changeable, damp, greasy conditions, nothing was stopping the Historic Senior Classic TT winner from scooping a hat-trick of middleweight category wins, emerging with respective winning margins of 9.513, 3.982 over second place finisher x2 Cowton Racing’s Franco Bourne.

Rob Hodson powered to Pub & Kitchen Super Twins Race Two success whilst the third, final Twins bout featuring a reduced grid of eleven competitors not including Hodson, was won by first time Scarborough victor, Galashiels Johnny Stewart who pipped to P1, Ryan Dixon (Trickbits Racing), cousin of Moto 2-star Jake Dixon.

Stephen Gorton, eight times Sidecar TT winner Dan Sayle (additionally Two Strokes Race Two winner), Liam McPherson swept up the 400cc 4-Stroke, 125/Moto 3, CB 500 races.

Greg Lambert/Andrew Haynes took Pre-Injection Sidecars races two & three crowns whilst Steve Ramsden/Ben Stell and Carl Fenwick/Jake Roberts shared F2 Sidecars spoils.

Joey Thompson increased his Oliver’s Mount victories to twenty-five, via triumphing in the second Potter Plant Classic Superbike contest.

The third yesteryear SBK encounter of the weekend saw ‘Joey Yorkshire’ beaten to first by Horsham’s Don Gilbert, who carried over the sterling form he showed in the Steve Henshaw Gold Cup feature race.

Two new Scarborough victors were-crowned from Sunday’s Supersport (B) races, Steve Hardy and Brook Built Racing’s Ben Long.

Seventy-six plate carrier Long’s victory was hard-earned to say the least with below 0.7 of a second separating him and second, third place finishers, the already highlighted Hardy and Shaun Buckle.

Besides the odd incident (wishing injured competitors speedy recoveries), the weather trying its’ best to throw spanners in the works, certain individuals trying their best to throw stones, the 73rd Scarborough Gold Cup was in-my-opinion a first-rate triumph.

Entertaining racing, good crowds throughout, a carnival atmosphere, the feel-good factor was working overtime.

Also, Greenlight TV’s live online coverage provided a significant milestone fillip for organisers.

Racing at Oliver’s Mount is gaining every day new fans, the interest is expanding amongst a new generation of roads scene supporters.

Here is to 2026 racing explorations at Scarbados, well sometimes, hopefully always next year, the weather hits the right tune!
