2025 Classic TT Chat: 2017 TT Privateers Champion Horst Saiger

Reading-through the 2025 Classic TT entry-lists per race, certain names standout not least back from racing retirement, 2017 TT Privateers Champion Horst Saiger.

Piloting an ex-Greenall Racing Kawasaki, Saiger one of Austria’s best-ever international road racers defined why he is returning to racing the unparalleled Mountain Course.

“I do it for fun just to enjoy it but if you aren’t going fast, you can’t enjoy it if you’ve raced all your life.

It is such a good feeling to be part of it again, to be a rider and not to be on the outside just watching on the other side.

If you want to watch a race this is the best place on earth but if you are used to been a rider, you miss it so much.”

The 2018 Superbike Classic TT runner-up, added about his afore-mentioned machine of choice for tomorrow’s four-lap Senior race.

“I think this Classic TT, is perfect for me, I can still do some racing, and I enjoy it. I love this bike you don’t have to renew this bike every year, because you can stick with it and everything, its’ just different it’s love for the bike and the track.”

“Angus and the whole Greenall team, they help me so much and also re-built the engine also Hans Peter Bollinger, he was my team boss with Bollinger endurance for twelve years, he is here with me helping me out and it’s just good a good squad together.”

The former Northwest 200 Superstock lap-record holder went onto open-up about a personal reason behind his racing comeback.

“It went better-and-better on the short circuits also my body got better-and-better and this is one of the reasons, because if you have no motivation for nothing your head is getting worse and worse and at the end, you almost need somebody to put on your socks!

My two little boys they want to have a dad that is running with them, and this was my motivation to get back, I am much better now physically and can do something, it’s a good thing.”

Going onto praise in spades the reinstated Classic TT, Saiger stated:

“It is such a good event especially when you go to see it for the first time, there is not such a big crowd, you can go everywhere watch racing amongst the first row.

It’s so good and everything is so relaxed, you can talk to the riders have a look at the bikes.

Sometimes it’s better than the TT when you are a newcomer to the Isle of Man because you can be relaxed, you can switch your viewing point and still have a good place, you don’t have to be there three hours before.”
