I’ve often stated this before but Super Twin encounters at Scarborough, rarely fail to excite, pulsate, captivate those spectating track side.
Keenly contested racing is a beckoning this week with a diverse pool of 35 plus speedsters pushing for great feats.
In fine form across July’s Cock O’The North, SMT Racing’s Rob Hodson back astride Southern 100 lap-record holding S1-R Paton machinery, starts one of the prime contenders for victories.
Hodson is certain to enjoy stiff opposition from Mad Bros Racing’s Gary McCoy (ER6 Kawasaki), King of The Mount Championship leader going into the Steve Henshaw Gold Cup.
McCoy, Hodson aren’t the only ones tipped to thrill this week. Team ILR with Frog Vehicle Developments have the dynamic duo of Jacque Foley and Oliver’s Mount wins record holder, Lightweight Manx Grand Prix winner earlier this month, Ian Lougher.
The evergreen Lougher as shown on the fabled, mythical Mountain Course, hasn’t lost the speed, competitiveness, thinking rider qualities that have taken him to endless huge moments in a storied over forty years real road racing career.
County Clare’s Foley meanwhile is one of Ireland’s most improved roads exponents. Like his esteemed team-mate, he’s aboard redoubtable Paton apparatus.
Back at Olivers’ for the first-time since the 2022 Gold Cup, Skerries Michael Sweeney (RS 660 Aprilia) is another considered a front-running threat.
Tom Weeden, Dave Hewson (Obsession Engineering) also feature on Aprilia’s TT podium finishing RS660 model whilst added ones to watch include:
Jay Bellers Smith (TH Racing/Hywel Griffiths Plant Hire – ER6 Kawasaki), 2017 Barry Sheene Trophy winner Dave Bell, Tigcraft vaulted Jack Turner.
Dean McMaster, Johnny Stewart (J Stewart Garage Services), Nick Gledhill (Allspeeds Racing Kawasaki).
Bishop Castle’s Barry Furber, Gareth Arnold (Cowton Racing – ER6 Kawasaki), Craig Szcyzpek (Manor Flooring Oxman Carpentry – R7 Yamaha), Tommy Downes (Malcom Cawston Racing – R7 Yamaha).
Newcomers Sean Seddon, Jack Meares (JMR Racing – ER6 Kawasaki), local hero Nick Anderson (RMKD Racing).
Kevin Barsby (Cowton Racing – ER6 Kawasaki), VRS Racing’s very much in-form Andy Smart, Oliver Morgan Edwards and the inspirational Chris Ganley.
Gold Cup Super-Twin sizzlers bubbling up, not long till we find out who is this month’s class titan.
