Into another universe, another vortex, another world, Mountain Course racing Manx GP 2024 style is underway.
After Dean Harrison’s Honda filming lap (121 mph lap unofficially), newcomers’ speed-controlled laps (1:45 PM start), Classic Superbike/Senior Supersport Q1 commenced eight minutes behind schedule at 2:08 PM.
Greenall Racing’s Brian McCormack was first away but P1 to Glen Helen was fellow Irishman, Michael Browne aboard the exotic Key Racing Ducati. Sam Johnson, Jamie Williams topped the Senior category.
At Ramsey Hairpin, the Classic SBK top three leaderboard featured Browne, Rob Hodson, Derek Sheils.
By the Bungalow, Browne, Hodson continued to be P1, P2 on the timing screens with just over 2.4 seconds separating the four times MGP race winners combined.
P1 plate holder McCormack was first to complete a timed lap (118.571) closely followed by Cork’s Browne (121.545).
Hodson was marginally slower (121.512), team-mate Sheils (120.383) also topped the 120-mph barrier.
Red flags then unfortunately popped up around the fabled, mythical Mountain Course due to an incident at Kate’s Cottage.
Organisers then confirmed that Junior/Senior Classic, Lightweight, Super Twins qualifying will intertwine together, running from 3:20 PM-4:15 PM with yesteryear SBK, Senior qualifying restarting at 4:20 PM.
