The 2021 Thundersport GB season opener at Snetterton, provided like the weather mixed results for numerous distinguished real road racing pilots.
Making a surprise appearance on Sunday, Monday was world’s fastest road racer, five times TT winner Peter Hickman.
Fresh from the BSB test at Silverstone, Hickman was competing as part of his own team’s new PHR Performance Thundersport set-up.
Fifth in the opening GP1 Sportsman Elite race held in varied conditions, the second 1000cc race held over 12 laps saw the Mountain Course lap record holder turn on the style, as he stormed to victory by the large margin of 24.363 seconds.
Nearest pursuer to Hickman, Gordon Huxley Racing’s Jonathan Perry also placed runner-up in the sole Open 1300cc Ace of Clubs encounter.
Others like Perry to quietly impress included GP1 Sportsman Elite race 1 runner-up Mike Norbury, the Isle of Wight’s Ryan Whitehall, Oliver’s Mount Spring Cup entrant Jamie Williams, Lightweight Manx GP lap record holder Jim Hind.
We can’t forget as well GP2 Super Twins race 3 victor Dominic Herbertson, who like the above mentioned Williams, Hind, Whitehall is set to sample the eagerly awaited Scarborough Spring Cup.
