Racing on the Irish Roads – Racers Recollections: Shaun Wynne

The eighteenth racer to take part in Road Racing News, recently launched Racing on the Irish Roads – Racers Recollections series is top six finisher this year at Cookstown and Faugheen, Shaun Wynne.

His answers to the Irish road racing themed set of questions, are as follows:

Q1: What is your first Irish road racing memory?

“The very first road race I did at Tandragee, I needed a change of under pants from my first time throw the Bomb Hole!”

Q2: Present favourite Irish road race?

“Got to be Tandragee, very special track.”

Q3: Who is your most respected fellow Irish roads exponent?

“Will always have to be the one and only Davy Morgan, always gave me great advice and a great man, legend.

Have to also mention Michael Sweeney, who also has done the same and always looked after me in the paddocks.

Thanks to Both, RIP Davy 71.”

Q4: If you could alter one aspect, in particular, within the sport, what would it be and why?

“Marshalls. We need to promote and get younger ones into the sport.

They do not receive much and think we all need to give them something more than a Breakfast, when they turn up for free and support all of us in this sport in all weathers and help us all.

Numbers are getting less and less we need to help them more like supply clothing, get them an area in paddocks together to make their time more fun.

Even if we all have to pay a small bit more on our entries, without these fantastic people our sport will not run.”

Q5: To date what has been your favourite Irish roads moment?

“To be fair, I personally have to say every single lap I ever do, it’s such a privilege to race on the Irish Roads North & South.

I am proud of getting a Podium at Cookstown on my wee 400 but again so hard to pick one moment, I just love all road races.”

Q6: Irish road racing summed up in one word, what would it be?

Q7: Is there any Irish roads event, that you haven’t raced at yet that you would like to?

“I’ve raced all available North & South road-races to date and would like to race Enniskillen, the one I’ve not done as its not run for a while.”
