Next to feature in Road Racing News, One Incredible IRRC Moment series, is dependable Championship stalwart Virgil-Amber Bloemhard.
Eighth in the final Superbike Championship standings of 2023, finishing as in 2022, top Dutch competitor, his favourite recollection from his time sampling IRRC (International Road Racing Championship) events to date, is as follows:
“My most memorable moment in the IRRC Championship came during my first IRRC Race in 2013. We decided to do a full IRRC season with our 2009 GSX-R1000 (Suzuki).
We had half wet conditions during qualifying on Saturday and I managed to put a good lap together and put it on pole with a 1.2sec gap! After the qualifications people were saying, who the f*ck is Virgil.
For race one I had a great start and kept the lead for the whole race to take the win! This was a huge surprise to everyone.
I quit racing after that season and made a comeback to racing and the IRRC in 2019.
The best memories I have now, is from all the friends I made in the IRRC family since then!”
