Set to pilot at the upcoming Barry Sheene Classic meeting, the Team Beale Roberts TZ 350 Yamaha, Huyton’s Jamie O’Brien is the next racer to take part in Road Racing News growing in popularity, Oliver’s Mount Top 8 series.
A top 20 finisher in last year’s Lightweight Classic TT, his answers to the Scarborough themed set of questions, are as follows:
Q1: First memory of Oliver’s Mount?
“The 1st time I went to Oliver’s Mount was after been involved in a major accident at the Southern 100.
Was in intensive care and then in recovery ward for some time, when I came out I drove to Scarborough to watch these races, I could hardly walk but that gave me the buzz to want to do it, mega road circuit.”
Q2: Favourite part about racing at the mount?
“It’s all a big highlight being there, as there is so much history there, including some of the best riders in the world, who have rode there.
Ago (Giacomo Agostini), Hailwood (Mike), Redman (Jim), Mick Grant, Eddie Roberts, Barry Sheene, Bob Smith to mention a few. So it’s very special to me, as racing is my passion and Scarborough is old school, how racing should be.
Not just modern bikes but anything from 125’s 350, 500 classics, Post Classics to modern 600’s. It’s a brilliant place and a great stepping stone for up and coming road racers.”
Q3: Favourite section of Scarborough course?
“My favourite section is the run up and round the cafe, like that section although I’ve only raced at Scarborough a few times.”
Q4: Best moment thus far at Scarborough?
“Winning my first race there, think it was at the Barry Sheene meeting.”
Q5: All time Scarborough racing hero?
“Ian Lougher”
Q6: Is there one machine in particular that you would like to race at Scarborough?
“I love most machines I ride. Would love to ride the TZ750 Yamaha round there, that would be brilliant.
Although a Kimoco 250 Rotax would be fun, although my passion is with the 350 TZ Yamaha’s and I’m due to ride the Team Beale and Roberts 350 at Scarborough. Massive thanks to Eddie Roberts and Mr Beale.”
Q7: One word to describe Oliver’s Mount?
“Boss”
Q8: Most respected racing rival at Scarborough?
“Ian Lougher, not that I can get anywhere near him!”
