IRRC Frohburg: Hamberg, Datzer Scoop Qualifying Successes

IRRC Frohburg: Hamberg, Datzer Scoop Qualifying Successes

IRRC Supersport:

With conditions all round rapidly changing, post opening competitive proceedings, the bulk of Supersport pilots set their best times today, during the second timed qualifying session.

Quickest this afternoon, securing pole position for tomorrow’s 10 lap races was Performance Racing Achterhoek’s Jorn Hamberg.

Hamberg finished just under 0.7 of a second faster than IRRC Supersport Championship favourite, Marek Cerveny (1.41.515).

Third quickest, only 0.260 behind Cerveny was twice Supersport TT winner, notable event wildcard Gary Johnson (1.41.775).

Fourth to sixth quickest, separated by under one second were Thomas Walther (1.42.397), Romain Cleaz-Savoyen (1.42.951) and Ilja Caljouw (1.43.193).

Wrapping up today’s ten speediest Supersport Frohburg runners were Mauro Poncini (1.43.308), Rico Vetter (1.43.602), Erwan Bannwart (1.43.916), Finland’s Anssi Koski (1.44.137).

IRRC Superbike:

IRRC Superbike Championship leader David Datzer, got what he hopes to be a quite tumultuous weekend, off to a perfect start via grabbing pole position for Sunday’s Superbike races.

The second Superbike qualifying session, taking place over 15 minutes would see MTP Racing’s Datzer make a dramatic late session charge, jumping up to P1, lapping at 1 minute 34.620 seconds.

This proved enough for Datzer to take a vital pole position ahead of meeting newcomer, multiple times South Africa national Champion Clinton Seller (1.34.887).

Datzer’s prime Championship rival Vincent Lonbois (1.35.500), placed fifth quickest overall behind fellow IRRC royalty Laurent Hoffmann (1.35.066), Didier Grams (1.35.303).

Sixth, seventh fastest were Performance Racing Achterhoek’s Virgil Amber Bloemhard (1.35.681), Swiss ace Lukas Maurer (1.35.930), who still mathematically has a chance of the IRRC Superbike title.

Finalising Saturday’s top ten IRRC Superbike qualifiers were Finnish star Erno Kostamo (1.36.494), Patrick Hoff (1.36.857) and Eddy Ferre (1.37.221).
