MCE Insurance Ulster Grand Prix – Michael Dunlop Wraps Up Superstock Pole Position

Following a lengthy delay due to mist and fog, the superstock qualifying session got underway just past 1:20 PM.

Continuing his dominant form around Dundrod, Michael Dunlop secured pole position on his own teams S1000RR BMW, following lap speed of 121.626 mph.

Derek Sheils continued his impressive 2016 Ulster GP campaign, by finishing second fastest, lapping at 120.779 mph, on his own teams Shirlaws Motorcycles backed ZX10R Kawasaki.

Steve Mercer (120.718 mph), took the Devitt RC Express Racing ZX10R Kawasaki to third position in qualifying whilst Devitt RC Express Racing team mate Jamie Coward, was close behind in fourth, also lapping in excess of 120 mph.

Valvoline Racing by Padgetts Motorcycles duo Conor Cummins and Bruce Anstey where next up on the qualifying leader board, followed by JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Peter Hickman.

Dean Harrison took the eighth spot in qualifying on the Silicone Engineering Racing ZX10R Kawasaki, whilst Dan Kneen put the Mar Train Racing YZF R1M Yamaha in the mix, in ninth.

Completing the top ten during another qualifying session, which saw tricky damp conditions around Dundrod, was Noel Williamson Racing’s Derek McGee.

Tyco BMW’s Ian Hutchinson clearly not enjoying the inclement conditions finished 15th fastest.
