IRRC Frohburg – Le Grelle In Prime Position To Seal Second Superbike Championship

2017 IRRC Superbike champion elect Sebastien Le Grelle put himself in prime position, to seal a second big bike crown within Europe’s premier roads series today at Frohburg, qualifying second fastest behind event wildcard and newcomer Alex Polita.

Penz 13 BMW’s Polita captured the imagination of the large crowd at Frohburger Dreieck, as the former World Superbike Championship racer set a sizzling pace lapping at an ultra impressive 1 minute 34.482 seconds.

However following a high speed incident in the second Open Superbike qualifying session, the popular Italian who sustained a broken finger will be a non starter for tomorrow’s ten lap races, which means second fastest Le Grelle will start from pole position.

Marek Cerveny’s title aspirations took a blow, as the Czech roads legend qualified down in fifth, just in front of impressive Frohburg debutant Markka Racing’s Erno Kostamo.

Fellow newcomer Derek Sheils, new to the Penz 13.com BMW fold was also immediately on the pace finishing seventh quickest, plus later in the day going onto finish fourth within the opening Open Superbike encounter.
