Horst Saiger To Take On Yamaha Challenge In 2018

TT Privateers champion Horst Saiger is set to bolster Yamaha’s presence at the international road races in 2018, as he and his Saiger Racing team join forces with Switzerland based Yamaha importer, Hostettler.

The enthusiastic Austrian will pilot YZF R6 and YZF R1M Yamaha’s which will be prepared by Yamaha Austria Racing Team’s Mandy Kainz next year at the North West 200, TT Races and Macau Grand Prix.

Speaking about his new enterprising Yamaha venture with brand mainstays Hostettler who backed in the early 1970’s former TT rostrum finisher Rodney Gould, he said:

“I rode as an instructor at the Yamaha Riding Academy of Hostettler and was able to get a first glimpse of the Yamaha YZF-R1 at the race track of Aragon.

I was immediately convinced by the unique engine concept as well as the super sporty R1 in general, I fell heavily in love with this motorbike, when returning to home.”

Adding about how his 2018 season is shaping up, the Superbike Classic TT third place finisher stated:

“I am now looking forward to my 2018 season, which will start with the NW200. Further confirmed dates are the Isle of Man TT, which is my main highlight, and Macau.

Unfortunately the Terlicko Road Racing meeting clashes with the Endurance World Championship at Oschersleben and I wont be able to compete there.

But I am still hoping to make my return to the Ulster GP and I am considering a detour to Frohburg as well.”
